Virtual dollar account for Latin America: what it is and how to open one

What a virtual dollar account is, how it differs from a bank account or an exchange, and the steps to open one online from Latin America.

What a virtual dollar account is

It is a set of real banking details — account number and routing number — linked to your verified account inside the infrastructure of a regulated third party, so that third parties can transfer money to you the same way they would to any lifelong account.

Whoever pays you does not need to understand any technology. They open their online banking, type your account number and routing number, and send the wire or the ACH. From their side it is an ordinary transfer.

The word "virtual" does not mean fake or temporary. It means the account is generated by software: no branch, no appointment, and no need for you to be in the country of that currency. At D-ONE CASH those details are reusable: you generate them once and use them again every month with the same client.

One clarification that prevents misunderstandings: D-ONE CASH is DIGITALROCKETS LLC and is not a bank or a financial institution. Financial services are provided by regulated third parties. What the platform does is give you access to that infrastructure from a single app.

How it differs from a bank, a virtual card and an exchange

This is where almost everyone gets confused, because the three things sound alike and do different jobs.

Versus a traditional bank account abroad. Opening an account at a bank in another country usually requires being there in person, a local proof of address, sometimes a minimum deposit, and a commercial relationship the bank can review whenever it wants. A virtual account is opened online after you verify your identity. The honest trade-off: it is not a banking relationship with everything that implies, it is a collection account.

Versus a virtual card. A card is for paying. A virtual account is for getting paid. They are opposite directions of the same flow. Nobody can send payroll or a client invoice to a card number.

Versus an exchange wallet. On an exchange you usually receive crypto at an address, or money into an account the exchange itself controls in aggregate. Here the entry point is ordinary banking rails — ACH, wire, SEPA, SPEI, PIX — and the person paying you never touches a crypto interface or asks which network to use.

Your own account number and a USDC balance

Two concepts worth being clear on before you hand your details to a client.

Routing number and account number. In the United States, the routing number (ABA, nine digits) identifies the institution and the account number identifies you inside it. With that pair, any bank in the world can send you a wire, and any US company can pay you by ACH. It is the same pair of details any US payment form asks for.

Deposits are credited as USDC. When the transfer lands, the amount is automatically converted to USDC, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. The amount does not change, because USDC is worth 1:1 to the dollar, and the conversion is automatic: there is nothing for you to manage.

Why does this matter? Because it explains the rest of the product's behavior. With the balance in USDC, transfers between accounts settle on-chain over EVM networks in seconds, 24/7, with no banking hours — a wallet-to-wallet transfer usually completes in under two minutes. And it also explains the limit: for that money to reach a bank account you have to make a withdrawal, and that takes 1 to 2 business days. Both facts are true at once; mixing them up is the most common cause of broken expectations.

Currencies and rails: what exists and what is live

Virtual accounts are created per currency, and each currency uses the local rail people already know:

Currency Incoming rail
USD ACH / Wire
EUR SEPA
GBP Faster Payments
MXN SPEI
BRL PIX
COP Bre-B / PSE transfer

One important notice, no decoration: each rail is enabled progressively by country. A currency appearing in this table does not mean it is live in your account today. If it is not yet, the app shows it as "in progress". The source of truth is your screen, not an article.

The USD virtual account is published as available now and is the one that covers wire and ACH. Even so, like the rest, it is enabled progressively by country: the app tells you whether it is already available in your account.

How to open one, step by step

The order is not negotiable: identity first, money second.

  1. Create your account and complete KYC. A valid government ID plus a selfie, 100% online, under five minutes. Verification is run by Persona through Bridge's infrastructure and approval normally arrives within minutes. It is mandatory before you can add funds. For the detail and the mistakes that block the most accounts, see what KYC verification is and the verification guide.
  2. Activate a subscription. There is no free plan: plans start at Professional, $7.99 a month.
  3. Go to Receive → Add funds (Recibir → Recargar in the app). Choose the "or transfer from your bank" (o transfiere desde tu banco) option.
  4. Pick the currency and tap Create account. The app generates the details.
  5. Copy the details and transfer from your bank, or pass them to whoever is paying you. They are reusable: do not repeat this step every month.

If you would rather not depend on a bank transfer, there is card funding from 10 USD (Stripe for US-issued cards, MoonPay for the rest of the world).

What it actually costs: fees, minimums and volume

Operation Fee
Card funding 0.50%
Bank transfer deposit 0.50%
Sending money 0.40%
Withdrawal to a bank account 0.40%
Surcharge for operating in USDT +0.15%

Currency conversion is charged separately and improves with your plan: USD–EUR and USD–MXN at 0.75% (Professional/Startup) and 0.65% (Growth/Enterprise); USD–BRL at 0.80% and 0.70%. The exchange rate is applied at the moment the order is processed. Full detail in fees.

The second number — the one people find out about late — is the monthly volume, which is the combined cap on sends plus withdrawals in a calendar month:

Plan Price/mo Monthly volume Users
Professional $7.99 $10,000 1
Startup $149 $200,000 10
Growth $349 $400,000 50
Enterprise $699 $1,000,000 100

Every plan includes a USD virtual account, USDC/USDT wallets on EVM networks, funding, sends, withdrawals and KYC. Professional has an annual price of $79.90. Compare them in plans.

Operating minimums: card funding 10 USD, withdrawal 10 USDC.

Who this makes sense for and who it does not

It makes sense if you get paid in dollars by clients or platforms abroad and today you depend on intermediaries; if you need stable, professional payment details to hand out; if you move money between your own accounts or with collaborators and banking hours get in your way; or if a withdrawal to your local bank, with its 1 to 2 business day window, is already better than what you use now.

It does not make sense if you are looking for a full bank account with banking products; if you expect money to land in a bank in seconds — that does not happen, not here and not anywhere that promises it; if your volume is so low that the subscription does not pay for itself; or if the rail for your currency is not yet enabled in your country and you cannot wait.

Before handing your details to a client, check in the app that the currency you need shows as available in your account. That quick check saves the awkward conversation afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual dollar account?

It is an account number with its routing number, linked to your verified account inside the infrastructure of a regulated third party, used to receive dollar transfers (wire and ACH) from any bank in the world. It is opened online, with no branch visit, and whoever pays you uses it like any other account.

Is it the same as a US bank account?

No. The payment details are real and work with wire and ACH, but this is not about opening a relationship with a bank and it does not replace a full bank account. At D-ONE CASH it is a collection account: DIGITALROCKETS LLC is not a bank or a financial institution, and financial services are provided by regulated third parties.

Do I need to verify my identity to open a virtual account?

Yes. KYC is mandatory before you can add funds. It is done 100% online with a valid government ID and a selfie, takes under five minutes, and approval normally arrives within minutes.

Why does the money show up as USDC and not as dollars?

Because every deposit is automatically converted to USDC, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. USDC is worth 1:1 to the dollar, so the amount does not change, and the conversion is automatic: there is nothing for you to manage. That format is what allows funds to move between platform accounts in seconds, with no banking hours.

How long does it take for the money to reach my local bank?

Withdrawals to a bank account are processed in 1 to 2 business days, and the exchange rate is applied at the moment the order is processed. What happens in seconds are wallet-to-wallet transfers inside the platform, which usually complete in under two minutes; that is not a delivery into a bank account.

Can I receive euros, Mexican pesos or Brazilian reais?

Virtual accounts are created per currency: USD (ACH/Wire), EUR (SEPA), GBP (Faster Payments), MXN (SPEI), BRL (PIX) and COP (Bre-B / PSE). Availability is enabled progressively by country: if a rail is not live for you yet, the app shows it as "in progress". Always check your account before handing the details to a client.
